Law Eligibility & Entrance Exams

Scope of Law career in India is having a tremendous growth. Now a days, Law graduates not only present themselves in the Court but also in Non-Litigation such as in Corporate, Law Firms, Law Agencies and Administration. Even Bollywood could not resist itself from making a cinema on the life of an Advocate. 

In order to make a career in Law, there are two ways. Firstly, if a candidate is having 10+2 qualification, he/she may opt for 5 years Law. Secondly, if a candidate is having Graduation degree from a recognized University, he/she has to undergo for 3 years Law. 

Law Colleges across India have a different selection process and eligibility criteria.

Basic criteria is given below:

For UG Candidates: 10+2 or equivalent degree from a recognized board with at least 45% aggregate marks. There is no age criteria set at this stage. 

 

For PG Candidates: A Graduate degree from a recognized University with at least 45% aggregate marks. There is no age criteria set at this stage.

 

What kind of Entrance Exams are available in India?

1. State Level Entrance Exam:

State Level Law Entrance Exam is a common law exam conducted by respective administration of the state. In Maharashtra, it is known as MH CET (Law) which is conducted by State Common Entrance Cell of Maharashtra. Details are given below:

Syllabus:

1. Syllabus for 3 years LLB:

Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning: This section will test candidate's aptitude or interest in law, research and problem solving abilities. Questions are framed on the basis of legal preposition and facts satisfying the propositions. The propositions might not be true in the real sense but candidates are required to assume them to be true. 

Important topics for Legal Aptitude sections are:

* Indian Constitution

* Indian Penal Code

* Indian Contract Act

* Law of Torts

* Legal Maxims

* Basic Legal Concepts

GK and Current Affairs: For this section, candidates are required to stay updated with the recent happenings in the national and international areas. The questions will be framed from History, Geography, General Science, Economics, Civics and Current Affairs of the past one year.

English Section: Questions from this section test a candidate's proficiency in English. The section usually has three major components viz. Vocabulary (synonyms, antonym, analogies etc.), Grammar (Correct the errors, fill in the blanks etc.), Comprehension skills.

Basic Mathematics: Candidates have to face basic mathematical questions pertaining to the exact syllabus of class 10. There will be 10 questions in 5 years LLB questions.

2. CLAT (Common Law Aptitude Test):

Common Law Aptitude Test is a national level entrance exam for admission to candidates in Law courses offered at 22 NLUs and other colleges/universities accepting exam scores. Details are given below:
